The Head Grounds Person is responsible for the upkeep and presentation of the Hawkhills estate, ensuring lawns, driveways, flower beds, shrub borders, and hedges are maintained to high standards. This involves routine and seasonal maintenance, implementing horticultural best practices, and maintaining the estate’s landscape health and aesthetics. The Supervisor will manage a team, equipment, monitor plant health, and ensure grounds remain immaculate year-round.
Main Accountabilities:
1. Ensuring tasks are completed efficiently.
2. Maintaining high-quality work and adherence to Health & Safety standards.
3. Following schedules and prioritising tasks for garden maintenance such as planting, hedging, weeding, pruning, and fertilising.
4. Inspecting garden areas regularly to assess conditions, identify improvements, and implement corrective actions.
5. Ensuring grass areas are mowed regularly and kept at appropriate lengths.
6. Strimming overgrowth around the site.
7. Trimming hedges and bushes, keeping them tidy and safe, respecting nesting seasons and wildlife legislation.
8. Gritting pathways and drives in winter with the maintenance team.
Requirements:
* Proven experience in grounds maintenance across various sites and garden types.
* Knowledge of grounds machinery.
* Experience in lawn, shrub, and plant care.
* Ability to perform physical tasks following Health & Safety guidelines.
* Full UK driving license.
Desirable (not essential):
* NVQ Level 2 in Amenity Horticulture or Level 2 Diploma in Work-based Horticulture.
* Certificates for equipment such as mowers, hedge trimmers, brush cutters.
* Chainsaw license.
* ATV license.
