Principal Clinical Scientist – Treatment Planning

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced senior clinical scientist to join our Radiotherapy Physics team. The successful candidate will support the delivery of high quality radiotherapy treatment planning and contribute to service development and research.
Main duties of the role
The Principal Clinical Scientist Lead for Treatment Planning will work under the direction of the Head of Treatment Planning and the Head of Radiotherapy Physics. Key responsibilities include:
* Providing specialist expertise in treatment planning and supporting safe, effective radiotherapy delivery across the service.
* Optimising treatment pathways and workflows to meet current and future service demands, including advanced and hypofractionated techniques.
* Supporting RightSizing of the Radiotherapy service to increase capacity, extend clinical day and improve efficiency.
* Mentoring and training staff, participating in workforce development, recruitment, appraisal, and workforce planning.
* Driving innovation through the introduction and optimisation of new planning techniques, technologies and workflows.
* Supervising staff day‑to‑day, coordinating workload and ensuring high‑quality service delivery.

Person Specification
Education & Qualifications
* Masters Degree (MSc) in Medical Physics or equivalent experience.
* Corporate Membership of IPEM.
* Registration as a Clinical Scientist (Radiation Physics) with HCPC.
* Higher Degree (PhD in an appropriate subject). (Preferred)
* Chartered Scientist (CSci).
Knowledge, Training & Experience
* Extensive experience in routine radiotherapy provision and operational management.
* Ability to act as a certified DHSC Medical Physics Expert (IR(ME)R).
* Specialist knowledge of radiotherapy processes, quality management systems, legislation, standards and guidelines.
* Basic understanding of NHS HR policies and procedures.
* Understanding of research, clinical governance and current NHS strategy relating to radiotherapy/cancer.
