Driving Examiner - DVSA
Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency • Failsworth • £28,119 • Permanent • Full time • CLOSING SOON
Overview
The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) is a fascinating place in which to forge your career. Tasked with keeping Britain moving safely and sustainably, we have a significant impact on road safety and on the life moments that depend on easy travel. As a Driving Examiner you will help us ensure people get their driving future off to a great start. We are looking for proactive, friendly and safe drivers who would like to train to become fully qualified Driving Examiners.
We will provide all the training you need
Our test centres are grouped into clusters, so we will ask you to select a cluster that is local to you. Once a job offer has been made, you will start your training online, undertake practical training at a local test centre, and have up to three weeks of guidance at a regional training facility before embarking on a rewarding career in which you assess the readiness of drivers seeking to secure their licences.
Responsibilities
* Meet people from diverse backgrounds and oversee driving examinations.
* Record results using a tablet and determine whether learners meet the required standards.
* Provide clear, constructive feedback and communicate outcomes with tact and diplomacy.
* Manage day-to-day interactions with learners and driving instructors in a professional manner.
To make the most of this challenge
* Every learner and driving instructor deserves respect; demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusivity.
* Maintain calm and be unflappable under pressure; be a safe driver with at least three years of UK or EU driving experience.
* Have no more than three penalty points on your licence and a solid knowledge of the Highway Code and road procedures.
* Be friendly, team-spirited and motivated to set high standards for drivers.
What you can expect in return
In addition to a deeply satisfying career and ongoing training and development opportunities, we offer an excellent work-life balance with flexible working options, 25 days of annual leave, all public holidays, an extra privilege day to mark the King’s birthday, and an employer contribution to pension up to 27%.
If you are ready to embark on an interesting career where no two days are the same, we would love to hear from you.
