An exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced registered nurses, mental health nurses, or midwives to work at Chalmers Gender Identity Clinic (GIC) on a part-time basis, with potential for additional hours depending on availability. The GIC is part of the Lothian Sexual and Reproductive Health Service (LSRHS), operating from the Chalmers Centre and 10 local clinics, providing Tier 4 and 5 specialist sexual health services to approximately 80,000 patients annually. Usual working hours are Monday to Friday, 08:30-16:30 or 12:00-20:00, with opportunities for long shifts.
Post-holders will primarily work within the Gender Identity Clinic but may also support broader services at the Chalmers Centre. Training will be provided to develop skills in the assessment, treatment, and review of patients seeking gender identity services, enabling autonomous management of initial and ongoing care. Additionally, involvement in caring for patients with various sexual and reproductive health issues and contributing to team leadership is expected.
Essential Criteria:
* First-level registration as a nurse, mental health nurse, or midwife with current NMC registration
* Post-registration qualification in sexual and reproductive health
* Minimum of two years' post-registration experience in sexual health, gender identity/trans-healthcare, or related fields
* Interest in working within gender identity services
* Independent non-medical prescribing qualification or willingness to obtain it
* Ability to assess and document psychosocial aspects of care
* Evidence of a non-judgemental, person-centred approach
* Effective communication and clinical consultation skills
* Willingness to work unsocial hours and travel independently across Lothian
Desirable Criteria:
* Teamwork and leadership experience
* Competence in contraceptive implant insertion and removal
This is a part-time permanent position, with potential for additional hours for those wishing to work full time. Salary will be pro-rata accordingly.
