This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a medium-sized Principal Contractor with an expanding portfolio. The company undertakes fit-out, construction, and refurbishment projects for a wide range of clients, including the Royal Opera House, Chelsea Football Club, and many other prestigious organizations, along with traditional architects and consultants. Their sectors of work include industrial, healthcare, education, refurbishment, and new build, all within the commercial environment.
THE ROLE:
1. Working alongside their existing team on projects ranging from £50k to £4M, this position offers varied, challenging, and exciting responsibilities combining both pre-contract tendering and post-contract commercial management duties.
2. Formulating tender packages by conducting site visits and surveys, helping identify potential hazards or difficulties in undertaking required works, and identifying opportunities to value engineer (VE) works to reduce client expenditure while maximizing company profitability.
3. Assisting in managing and controlling project risks, including identifying potential risk factors and making recommendations to all parties by utilizing Contractors' Design proposals at tender returns. Ensuring that risk elements on secured projects are effectively managed through avoidance, mitigation, or transference as appropriate.
4. Assisting in formulating and pricing simple schedules of work, Bills of Quantities, and/or specifications based on information obtained from site visits and the client’s brief.
5. Breaking projects down into specialist trade contractor and/or material supply packages, obtaining supplier quotations, conducting tender analyses, and making recommendations on suppliers to be used.
6. Forecasting cash flow for secured projects.
7. The role involves both office and site-based responsibilities.
KEY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
* A formal construction or surveying qualification is desirable. Funded further education will be considered for the right candidate.
* A solid understanding of construction processes and methodologies.
* Excellent communication skills to develop successful relationships with clients and suppliers.
