Salary: £12.60 per hour
Hours: Zero-hour/ Variable Hour Contract; Includes Weekends & School Holidays

Who We Look for? We are seeking a warm, personable and highly motivated individual who can empower and support a team and children and young people with complex needs and disabilities. Strong communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills are valued. The role involves working with an experienced team across the West Midlands region and participation in comprehensive training. Experience leading a team is a bonus, but transferable skills are welcomed and training is provided.
What does a CYP Support Worker do? Midland Mencap aims to provide high quality, fun and safe experiences for children and young people. The role follows a person-centred approach to activities and support for individuals with complex needs. The worker may lead designated tasks, undertake training, and support children who require tube feeding or emergency medication. They will keep information up to date including All About Me protocols and risk assessments, ensure safeguarding and wellbeing, and create a safe, creative and stimulating environment for social, leisure and recreational activities. Mentoring and supporting new staff during probation is possible. Training will be provided and responsibilities for safeguarding and reporting concerns timely. The worker will adapt to Midland Mencap and children’s services needs and support all children and young people within established teams.
Key Responsibilities
* Attend staff briefings before and after sessions to discuss and assess service progress.
* Be available to work a minimum of 3 shifts a month to support the CYP service and delivery.
* Support children and young people to participate in arts, crafts, games, sports, drama, music and outings.
* Be aware of and respond to health and safety issues.
* Follow financial and administrative procedures as directed by the Children and Young Person’s Coordinator.
* Follow first aid procedures and keep records of accidents, incidents and treatment given.
* Provide personal care when needed, respecting dignity and privacy.
* Monitor and evaluate progress through observation and records.
* Promote Midland Mencap to families and other agencies.
* Comply with Health and Safety legislation and Midland Mencap’s Equal Opportunities and Child Protection Policies.
* Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with children, young people, parents, carers, staff and volunteers.
* Be available to work flexible hours city-wide.
* Participate in planned regular meetings with the CYP Co-ordinator and Midland Mencap colleagues.
* Adhere to organisational policies and procedures.
* Attend training courses to develop knowledge and skills to improve service quality.
* Carry out other tasks as appropriate within the role and aims of the organisation.
Essential Knowledge and Experience
* Working as part of a team
* Ability to motivate and encourage children and young people with complex needs to participate in activities
* Understanding of alternative communication methods for non-verbal children
* Planning and delivering creative programmes to meet individual needs
* Training relevant to the role
* Participation in sports and other physical activities
* Teamwork and the ability to work alone using initiative

* Willingness to undertake an enhanced DBS

* Good written and verbal communication skills
* Practical arts, crafts, music, drama, sports or games skills
* Experience in positions of responsibility
Desirable
* Experience in an Ofsted and CQC regulated environment/setting
* Full driving licence and access to a car; willingness to travel across the area (desirable)
* Relevant qualifications such as Pediatric First Aid, Mental Health First Aid, Level 2 or 3 Childcare
