We are seeking a proactive and customer-focused Income Officer to join a well-established Housing Association based in Birmingham on a temporary-to-permanent basis, offering hybrid working. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced housing professional who is passionate about supporting residents, sustaining tenancies, and ensuring the effective management of rental income.
As an Income Officer, you will be responsible for a defined patch of properties, working closely with tenants to prevent rent arrears, agree realistic repayment plans, and deliver early intervention support. You will collaborate with internal teams and external agencies to promote financial wellbeing, maximise income collection, and achieve positive tenancy outcomes.
Key Responsibilities Of An Income Officer:
Manage and monitor rent accounts, taking timely and appropriate action on arrears.
Engage with tenants to provide advice and support on income-related matters, including Universal Credit, Housing Benefit and welfare reform.
Agree and monitor repayment arrangements and make referrals for additional support to help sustain tenancies.
Prepare and progress cases for legal action, including attending court hearings where required.
Work collaboratively with colleagues across Income, Housing Management and Support teams to deliver a consistent, resident-focused service.
Represent the organisation professionally at court, multi-agency meetings and partnership forums as needed.
What We'd Love To See From You:
Proven experience in income management, rent recovery or social housing.
Strong knowledge of welfare reform, debt recovery processes and relevant housing legislation.
Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills.
The ability to balance empathy with assertive income recovery, maintaining professionalism at all times.
Strong organisational skills and confidence using housing management systems and digital tools
