Menzies Distribution Solutions are looking for a Trainee Transport Planner to join us, providing a first class service with our team in Wakefield. We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic individual to train in Transport Planning for a busy 3PL company, primarily working with Class 1 vehicles using various systems. The role's purpose is to ensure timely and complete delivery of customer products in the most cost-effective manner, maximizing resource utilization while complying with Transport Legislation and Health & Safety standards. The role also involves optimizing the use of the Menzies fleet through efficient planning of deliveries and collections, and managing driver schedules in accordance with current driver hours and WTD legislation.

* Salary: £29,000 Per Annum / £13.27 Per Hour
* Shift Pattern: 4 On/4 Off Days
* Hours: 06:00-18:00

Key Duties and Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
* Planning customer deliveries using available software to meet delivery windows.
* Liaising with drivers and customers regarding delays and issues.
* Developing backhaul lanes and maintaining fleet utilization.
* Sourcing local agency drivers and subcontractors as needed, providing clear briefs.
* Completing late load reports and ensuring loads meet safety standards.
* Managing drivers' start times, pre-briefing, and de-briefing to ensure compliance and proper documentation.
* Managing WTD compliance, downloading driver cards for analysis, and reducing tachograph infringements.
* Conducting meetings, assessments, and ensuring compliance with all transport legislation and KPIs.
* Handling administrative tasks related to transport operations and liaising with other depots.
* Recording trailer information and maintaining transport documentation.
Key Experience and Qualifications:
* Experience in a busy transport office environment.
* Knowledge of drivers' hours, tachograph, and WTD legislation.
* Understanding of continuous improvement processes.
* Good educational background and IT literacy.
* Knowledge of health & safety and transport systems.
Technical skills and behavioral competencies include:
* Team-oriented attitude, good communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
* Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and develop relationships.
* Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of managing people.
