Job Title: Principal Engineer - Flood & Water Management Salary: £47,000 to £60,000 (dependent on experience) Location: Reading (Hybrid) Type: Permanent - Full Time / Flexible About the Role: Our client is seeking a driven and experienced Principal Engineer specialising in flood risk, river engineering and water management. You will lead the development and delivery of sustainable, nature-based solutions across multidisciplinary projects - from concept through to construction. You'll collaborate closely with technical specialists across hydraulic modelling, environmental disciplines, and design, ensuring high-quality outcomes that protect communities and improve natural environments. About Our Client: Our client is a progressive consultancy delivering innovative, sustainable engineering solutions across the UK. Key Responsibilities: Develop and deliver flood risk, river engineering and water management schemes Design structures including culverts, weirs, outfalls, sluices and river walls in line with relevant standards Lead option appraisals to create economic, sustainable engineering solutions Produce detailed construction information, drawings and specifications Collaborate with CAD Technicians to ensure clear and accurate design output Undertake site visits, asset inspections and supervision of construction works Support contract preparation, administration and NEC site supervision Manage project coordination, client liaison and budget control Mentor and support junior engineers What Our Client is Looking For: BEng/MEng in Civil Engineering Chartered or working towards Chartered status Strong experience in flood risk or civil engineering design Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office; relevant engineering software beneficial Familiarity with CESWI and NEC contracts desirable but not essential A proactive team player with strong organisation and communication skills What Our Client Offers: Competitive salary and flexible working options Career progression with clear development pathways Involvement in high-impact, sustainable infrastructure projects Supportive team and collaborative working environment Modern office environment close to major rail links Eligibility: Full right to work in the UK (no sponsorship available unless confirmed otherwise) Relevant degree and engineering experience in the UK market Opportunity for Growth: Progression towards Chartered Engineer status (if not already achieved) Increasing responsibility across project leadership and team development Exposure to a wide variety of complex and prestigious projects We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity in our company.
