Buckswood School, known for its values-based education and unique approach, is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Science Lab Technician to join our team.
Job Purpose:
To support the effective delivery of practical science lessons across Key Stages 3 to 5, including GCSE, A Level, and IB programmes. The role includes the preparation of materials and equipment, maintenance of laboratory resources, and ensuring high standards of safety and compliance. The ability to deliver Key Stage 3 Science lessons as cover is desirable.
Key Responsibilities:
* Prepare, set up, and clear away equipment and materials for practical lessons.
* Assist teaching staff during practical classes and support students where appropriate.
* Ensure laboratories and preparation areas are clean, safe, and well-stocked.
* Monitor and maintain chemical and equipment inventories, ordering stock when necessary.
* Maintain up-to-date records of COSHH and risk assessments.
* Support the development of resources and demonstrations across all science disciplines (Biology, Chemistry, Physics).
* Assist in the organisation and delivery of internal assessments and science events.
* Provide occasional classroom cover for KS3 Science lessons (if appropriately qualified and experienced).
Desirable Skills and Qualifications:
* Experience working in a school science department or similar laboratory environment.
* Knowledge of Health & Safety in laboratories, including COSHH and CLEAPSS guidance.
* A Science-related qualification (A Level or above preferred).
* First aid training (or willingness to undertake training).
* Experience or qualification in teaching KS3 Science is advantageous.
