Job summary
What you'll do
This important role is part of Forestry England's National Operations Team. Forestry England's operations are directed by a suite of operational guidance, covering all aspects of the organisations work. This ensures consistency in the management of our operations, ensuring we comply with legal requirements and best working practices. The post holder will oversee the development, review, launch and subsequent monitoring of compliance with this guidance within Forestry England, working closing with subject mate experts as well as national and regional colleagues. Whilst others may often be the main authors, you will at times be required to lead on the production of some cross cutting guidance (e.g. Resumptions).
Additionally the nations forests are dual certified under FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) and PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) for timber production and venison sales and the role will assist the Lead Planning Manager in ensuring organisational compliance with the UK Woodland Assurance Standard (UKWAS), the standard for verifying sustainable woodland management in the UK.

Where you'll work
This role will be based in one of Forestry Commission's offices across England with regular contact or travel to Bristol. There will be flexibility for some optional blended working. Please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas.
Job description
Oversight of current guidance -
•ensure that current guidance and supporting documents are reviewed as appropriate and according to agreed schedules by the relevant authors
•maintain a log of changes
•responsible for updating the relevant intranet (Roots) pages and archiving any previous document versions, removing guidance as it becomes obsolete, ensuring any live guidance is not contradictory and is aligned with national policy and practice
•own the Resumptions PPG and support the embedding of eTasks into business units so that it is the primary source of legal and business task reminding and recording, and organisational assurance of compliance.
Lead/condition revision and production of new guidance -
•guidance will need significant revision, as the scope Forestry England's operation grows and develops, legislation changes or new processes are introduced - lead on the production of this guidance either through the co-ordination of subject specialist authors or direct coordination and authorship.
•develop a standard process for guidance/PPG development, consultation, scrutiny and implementation
Dissemination of guidance -
•ensure that the relevant target audiences are aware of current guidance content, revisions and updates, development and launch. Use the most appropriate channels to ensure it reaches target audiences - utilising intranet updates, regional comms, email bulletins, site visits and webinars or in person presentations
Auditing against guidance and standards -
•establish and carry out a programme of audit against the suite of guidance. Where appropriate coordinating with subject departmental specialist. Reporting compliance to the Lead Planning Manager
Assist with both internal and external auditing against UK Woodland Assurance Standard to maintain the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) and PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) dual
certification.
And any other tasks, reasonably requested by your line manager.
Person specification
Essential professional and technical experience
•competent IT skills and a good working knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications
•experience in managing multiple project streams together, running to varied timescales and priorities
•excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills and conversant with emote working technology such as Microsoft Teams
Desirable professional and technical experience
•experience in producing policy and guidance documentation
•an understanding of an experience in contract management and relevant health & safety legislation
•a full UK Driving License
•experience and qualification in either ISO 9001 or ISO14001 auditing or a willingness to undertake training
•a good understanding of sustainable forest management and knowledge of forest certification against UK Woodland Assurance Standard
