We are seeking an experienced Senior Automation Engineer to support the FEED phase of a high-speed packing line project within the FMCG sector. The role will focus on developing robust, scalable, and cost-effective automation concepts, ensuring alignment with operational, safety, and performance requirements.
The successful candidate will work closely with both our end clients and our internal multidisciplinary teams including process, mechanical, electrical, and project management functions to define the automation strategy and deliver key FEED documentation.
This is an initial short term contract opportunity with the opportunity to extend services as the project moves into the next stages. Services will be provided on a hybrid basis with time spent on site and in our offices in East Yorkshire.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the development of automation and control system concepts for a new or upgraded packing line.
* Define system architecture including PLC, HMI, SCADA, and network infrastructure.
* Develop functional design specifications (FDS) and contribute to user requirement specifications (URS).
* Evaluate and select appropriate automation platforms, vendors, and technologies.
* Produce control philosophies, cause & effect matrices, and high-level logic descriptions.
* Support layout reviews to ensure optimal integration of automation systems with mechanical design.
* Identify project risks and opportunities related to automation and propose mitigation strategies.
* Provide CAPEX input and cost estimation for automation scope.
* Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and company engineering guidelines.
* Participate in HAZOP, design reviews, and stakeholder workshops.
* Interface with OEMs and system integrators during early project phases.
* Support project planning by defining automation deliverables and timelines.
