A Plumbing Improver (specializing in sink water heaters/first & second fix) supports qualified engineers with installations and repairs. They are often recently qualified (NVQ Level 2/3) or nearing completion of their training, needing some supervision but capable of basic, independent tasks. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Job Purpose and Responsibilities
* Installation: Assisting with the first and second fixing of domestic plumbing, including installing sinks, taps, and point-of-use (undersink/oversink) water heaters.
* Pipework: Measuring, cutting, bending, and joining pipework (copper/plastic).
* Maintenance: Assisting with servicing, repairing, or replacing electric hot water systems and associated valves.
* Site Management: Ensuring work areas are clean and safe, and managing inventory/parts.
* Customer Service: Maintaining a professional demeanor and explaining work to customers.
Skills and Qualifications
* Qualifications: NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plumbing and Heating (or working towards).
* Experience: Previous experience as a plumber’s mate or junior improver, ideally in residential, social housing, or site work.
* Licence: Full UK Driving License
* Technical Skills: Proficient with hand and power tools.
* Knowledge: Working knowledge of water regulations (WRAS). [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]
