Location: You can be based at one of our offices - HQ Dartford, Cambridgeshire, Manchester, Birmingham, or Nottinghamshire - with travel across the UK as and when required.
Play a critical role in shaping safety across one of the UK's leading specialist engineering businesses.
Laing O'Rourke's Expanded Piling team delivers innovative geotechnical solutions on some of the UK's most complex and high-profile infrastructure projects. With capabilities spanning piling, diaphragm walls, restricted access foundations, and marine structures – we combine deep technical heritage with modern, collaborative delivery.
We're looking for a Health, Safety & Wellbeing Manager who can lead with insight, empathy, and energy — someone who goes beyond the clipboard and truly connects with our people.
About the Role
You’ll be the strategic lead for health, safety, and wellbeing across Expanded Piling — working across both Laing O'Rourke and external client projects. You’ll champion our Inclusion + Wellbeing (I+W) programme and create a culture where safety isn’t just about rules, but relationships, trust, and continuous learning.
This is a highly visible role within the business unit, offering the chance to influence behaviours, challenge traditional practices, and help shape the future of safety in specialist construction.
What You’ll Do
* Champion the I+W agenda across all operations and leadership levels
* Coach project teams in engagement tools, positive investigations, and appreciative enquiry
* Lead health and safety assurance, risk reviews, and strategic reporting
* Influence behavioural change through authentic leadership and communication
* Engage directly with clients, stakeholders, and enforcement bodies
* Drive learning culture and innovation in safety tools, technologies, and practice
What You’ll Bring
* Level 5 qualification in H&S (minimum) and professional membership (e.g. IOSH)
* Strong technical understanding of safety, environmental, and occupational health risks
* Proven leadership in high-risk or complex construction environments
* Confidence, empathy, and credibility – you build trust and influence at all levels
* A coaching mindset, with a proactive approach to change and collaboration
Why Join Us?
At Laing O'Rourke, we push the boundaries of construction. Innovation, technical excellence, and sustainability are at the heart of everything we do. We create buildings and infrastructure that make a lasting positive impact on communities and the environment.
We also take care of our people! Our competitive package includes:
* Base salary + car/travel allowance
* Access to PMI
* Enhanced pension and parental leave schemes
* Life, dental, and critical illness insurance
* Income protection
* 33 days' holiday (including bank holidays!)
