As a team leader working with the Principal Occupational Therapist in planning, coordinating, delivering, and evaluating the Occupational Therapy Service provided to patients with complex neurological disorders. The role involves carrying out advanced assessment, treatment, and management of patients with complex neurological disorders and contributing to the MDT assessment determining appropriateness for admission, and/or provision of recommendations to referrer.
The successful candidate will work as part of an inter-disciplinary team planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care. They will jointly deputise in the absence of the Principal Occupational Therapist to coordinate day-to-day planning and to represent the department at relevant meetings both in and outside the Trust. The role also involves leading audits and participating in research activities on the RHRU, which acts as a national focus for research and training.
Key responsibilities include carrying a complex neuro caseload, with responsibility of key working up to 2 patients as per service needs require. The role also involves delivering clinically sound, evidence-based treatment approaches, including:
* Treatment and rehab of neurological Upper Limb - spasticity, splinting, Arm Programmes, Arm Group
* PDOC assessment and management, including complex postural management
* Cognitive assessment, rehabilitation
The successful candidate will be involved in complex discharge planning, including practical arrangements and meeting administrative deadlines. They will also provide family support/education, occupation-focused goal setting, conceptualisation, and formulation.
Service Improvement/Research
The role involves taking an active role in contributing to the research base for the profession and OT department on the RHRU, leading service improvement projects as agreed with the clinical lead, and supporting Band 6's in planning, evaluation, and audit of practice and clinical pathways.
Management/Supervision
The successful candidate will undertake the supervision and appraisal of 2 x Specialist Occupational Therapist.
