Overview
The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, the Army Top Level Budget (TLB) employs around 12,000 MOD Civil Servants located at over 300 locations. The Army workforce includes roles such as trainers, human resources, teachers, psychologists, storekeepers, financiers, project and programme managers, and policy secretariat staff. Vehicle Fitters across the Army support vehicle maintenance, recovery and equipment care of a wide range of vehicles, including armoured tracked and wheeled vehicles. This role is advertised at 37 hours per week with a flexible approach.
As a Civil Service Vehicle Fitter, you will service and repair all systems within the vehicle including engine and exhaust systems, air brakes, air conditioning and electronics. Work will range from replacing parts to solving complex faults using diagnostic methods and equipment. With evermore-complex technologies, the tasks are constantly changing. As an experienced Vehicle Fitter, you will develop your trade knowledge on tracked vehicles and specialist artillery equipment.
Responsibilities
* Carry out a variety of maintenance and repair work on various military equipment.
* Visual inspections and care of military vehicles.
* Complete all relevant documentation.
* Work with experienced System Technicians on more complex diagnostic and repair tasks.
* Ability to work in a team and as an individual.
* Ensure that appropriate quality standards are achieved and maintained in all aspects of their work with interpretation and application of regulations when required.
* Comply with regulations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 insofar as they apply to practices and processes at their place of work.
* Carry out all mandatory training including Information Management Training and JAMES Training as required by role.
Qualifications & Skills
* NVQ level 3 or equivalent in light or heavy vehicle mechanical qualification. Or a VM Class 1 or Tri-Service Equivalent.
* NVQ level 2 or equivalent in light or heavy vehicle mechanical qualification. Or a VM Class 2 or Tri-Service Equivalent.
* Passion and interest in vehicles and engineering; motivated and a team player; good attention to detail.
