Job Summary
The post-holder will be a qualified nurse responsible for delivering practice nursing services to the practice population. Supported by the Lead Nurse Practitioner within their scope of practice, they will demonstrate safe clinical decision-making and provide expert care for patients within general practice. They will focus on supporting patients to be healthy, managing long-term conditions, health prevention, screening activities, immunisations, and possibly cervical screening.
The post-holder will collaborate with the multidisciplinary general practice team to meet patient needs, support policy and procedures, and build effective relationships with other healthcare professionals. They will work within a team of GPs, nurses, and healthcare assistants to deliver excellent primary healthcare services.
Main Duties
1. Venepuncture and handling of specimens
2. Undertaking diagnostic tests and screening procedures (e.g., ECG, cervical cytology)
3. Immunisation and vaccination of children, adults, and travelers
4. Ear examination and syringing
5. Wound care, dressings, and suture removal
6. First aid and emergency management (burns, hemorrhage, shock, cardiac arrest); injury triage
7. Equipment care and maintenance
8. Maintaining accurate documentation
9. Ensuring timely and safe arrangements for patient care
10. Supporting evidence-based practice and local policies
11. Delivering opportunistic health promotion
12. Understanding policies on substance abuse and referring patients appropriately
13. Upholding confidentiality according to policies and the Data Protection Act 2018
14. Maintaining professional competency and revalidation readiness
15. Effective use of read codes
