Overview
We are partnering with a global leader in financial markets infrastructure, currently undergoing an enterprise level modernisation programme of their core platform. This multi-year transformation is focused on rebuilding core data and analytics capabilities using a modern cloud-native stack —and they are looking for a high-calibre Technical Leader (IC) to play a pivotal role.
This an opportunity with significant architectural ownership, suited for a senior technologist who wants to lead from the front, architect cutting-edge solutions at scale, and influence the direction of one of the most essential platforms in global finance.
The Opportunity
You will act as a technical thought leader, shaping and delivering a next-generation data and technology platform in a Python, Azure, and Snowflake ecosystem. You’ll work closely with senior engineers, architects, product teams, and executive stakeholders to define architecture, mentor engineering teams, and deliver on high-impact projects that are critical to the future of the business.
This role does not involve direct line management, but does require top-tier leadership skills, technical authority, and the ability to drive outcomes across multiple teams.
Key Responsibilities
Lead architectural design and hands-on technical delivery for a major cloud transformation programme.
Design scalable, secure, and high-performance data systems using Azure, Python, and Snowflake.
Provide deep technical guidance across multiple teams, acting as the go-to expert for complex engineering decisions.
Collaborate with platform, product, and enterprise architecture teams to align solutions with long-term strategy.
Establish and promote modern engineering practices including CI/CD, infrastructure as code, DevSecOps, and automated testing.
Tackle deep technical debt and modernise legacy systems with a focus on scalability, modularity, and cloud alignment.
Champion a culture of engineering excellence, documentation, and knowledge sharing.
Ideal Candidate Profile
10+ years in software engineering or data architecture roles, with proven experience at enterprise scale.
Deep hands-on expertise with:
Azure cloud services (e.g., Data Lake, Synapse, Functions, Event Grid)
Python for backend, data engineering, and automation
Snowflake, including performance tuning, architecture, and best practices
Experience leading or being a key contributor to enterprise-wide transformation projects (cloud migration, platform rebuilds, etc.).
Deep understanding of data architecture, APIs, and security standards in regulated or high-availability environments .
Strong influencing and communication skills—able to operate confidently across engineering, architecture, and product.
Nice to Have
Background in capital markets, financial services, or trading systems.
Familiarity with Kubernetes, Terraform, and observability tools.
Azure and/or Snowflake certifications.
Experience in distributed systems or real-time data processing environments.
