Job Description
As Head of Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (Gas), you will play a pivotal leadership role, developing and overseeing the implementation of contract-specific HSEQ management arrangements aligned with Group HSEQ standards and governance framework.
Your primary objective will be to deliver the HSEQ business plan to drive continuous improvement across water/energy contracts. You will ensure risks are adequately profiled, and operational HSEQ advisors collaborate with the Network Plus leadership team to establish robust local systems, fostering a culture of strong HSEQ standards and continual improvement.
This role involves managing HSEQ Contract Leads (Managers) and a team of HSEQ Advisors. You will interact with clients, providing monitoring and assurance updates, and collaboratively identifying best practices.
Key Responsibilities
1. Highlight potential sector risk changes to the Contract Senior Leadership Team.
2. Develop, monitor, and lead strategic plans to embed the Group HSEQ systems within contractual requirements.
3. Ensure HSEQ policies and standards are consistently implemented across sector contracts for compliance.
4. Profile, review, and update sector HSEQ risks regularly.
5. Act as Lead Investigator for high-risk HSEQ incidents and support operations as needed.
6. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement through MI trending and analysis.
7. Collaborate with clients and industry partners to identify best practices and future initiatives.
8. Implement improvement plans to develop HSEQ culture across contracts.
9. Ensure understanding and implementation of the Group HSEQ governance framework.
10. Monitor compliance against HSEQ standards and provide management reports with MI.
11. Establish and maintain an effective assurance framework across contracts.
12. Build and maintain relationships with clients and external organizations, including audits and remedial actions.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
* Experience managing large teams
* Senior management experience with high-level leadership skills
* Relevant HSEQ qualification (e.g., NVQ 4, NEBOSH Diploma, or degree)
* Experience in a similar high-risk environment at managerial level
* Extensive root cause analysis experience and qualification
* Strong communication and negotiation skills to motivate and influence
* Excellent time management, organizational, and decision-making skills
* Proficiency in IT skills, including Excel and databases
Desirable
* Experience in the Utility Sector
* Chartered IOSH and IEMA member
