Hays Accountancy and Finance are recruiting and working in partnership with a large public sector organisation for the appointment of a Staff Officer Accountant offering a competitive market leading salary and public benefits.
This role is finance posts within the Digital Services Division (DSD). The DSD exists to develop and deliver Information and IT Services that will support business areas achieve their objectives effectively and primarily through digital channels.
DSD have a significant budget which includes many complexities in managing large contracts and IT programmes across the Department. Financial management is at the forefront of DSD Governance across delivery and business cases.
The DSD manages approximately £30M of public funds per year. The day-to-day workload demands on current staff have been increasing significantly, and warrants an accountant position, so this is an extremely exciting time to join the team!
This role will act as an integral member of the finance team, you will be working across a range of Finance functions including;
Your new role
1. Analysis of financial data
2. In-year budget management and monitoring, monthly budget profiling, variance analysis and reporting
3. Production of monthly and/or quarterly management accounting information
4. Dealing with internal and external auditors including the Northern Ireland Audit Office
5. Provide financial governance over specific IT Projects within the Department
6. Providing advice and guidance on the use and interpretation of financial information, accounting requirements and best practice
7. Use of activity based costing and benchmarking techniques
8. Promote good corporate governance across the organisation
9. Establishing and maintaining close and effective working relationships
10. Management of the financial processing function
11. Management of staff and other resources
12. Identification & delivery of process improvements and Business planning and co-ordination
What you'll need to succeed
13. Applicants must be fully qualified accountants, having successfully completed the professional examinations, and be a full Member of one of the following bodies:
14. Chartered Accountants Ireland;
15. The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Scotland;
16. The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales;
17. The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants;
18. The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants;
19. The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy
20. The Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ireland.
21. AND
Must have one year's experience gained in the last five years, in a finance related environment.
22. It would be desirable to have previous experience in the following areas;
23. Previous working experience in a Financial Team
24. Collaborative working experience with multiple stakeholders
25. Working to tight deadlines and competing priorities
26. Establishing good communication and maintaining productive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and excellent written and oral skills, e.g. report writing, assisting with written submissions.
