Ainslie ward at Torbay Hospital is recruiting a full‑time Healthcare Support Worker to join our fast‑paced 26‑bedded Trauma and Orthopaedic ward.
As a Healthcare Support Worker on Ainslie ward you will help patients during their stay by ensuring they receive quality care and support. Every day will be different, so you can expect to undertake varied and rewarding work while working effectively alongside Registered Nurses and Practitioners on a daily basis.
You will receive support with your development through in‑house training, external courses, regular supervision and appraisals to help you reach your maximum potential.

Working Pattern
Please note you will be required to work a combination of long days and nights on an 11.5‑hour shift, including weekends and bank holidays.
Main Duties
* Observing, monitoring and recording patients’ conditions by taking temperatures, pulse, respirations and weight.
* Communicating with patients, relatives and carers, and assisting with clinical duties.
* Providing personal care including infection prevention and control, food, personal hygiene and overall reassurance, comfort and safety.
* Working collaboratively with colleagues at all levels, both within and outside the department.
* Participating in ward/unit meetings as requested, encouraging effective communication among staff.
* At the direction of Registered Nurses and senior clinical staff, fully participating in the delivery of planned care.

Person Specification
Essential
* Understanding of the need for strict confidentiality.
* Previous experience in a care environment or a demonstrated caring nature/life experience.
* GCSE (grade C/5 or above) in Maths and English, or Functional Skills level 2 in both subjects as a minimum entry requirement.
* Basic computer/keyboard skills.
* Fine motor skills for venepuncture, phlebotomy and other clinical tasks.
* Good interpersonal and communication skills.
* Ability to prioritise and organise work.
* Ability to work under instruction, under pressure and as part of a team.
* Record keeping competency in handwritten and electronic records.
* Empathy, sensitivity and adaptability in communication style.
* Stress management for self and others.
* Willingness to undertake new skills and training.
* Flexibility, reliability and punctuality.

Desirable
* Working knowledge of complex care needs, including safeguarding children & adults, domestic abuse and mental health.
* Care certificate.
