This is an excellent opportunity for an IG professional looking to shape and influence data protection practice within a large, high‑performing local authority. The Role: In this strategic and hands‑on management role, you will use your expert knowledge of the UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOI), Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) and related legislation to ensure high‑quality, timely responses to statutory information requests and privacy enquiries. You will support our Data Protection Officer in embedding data protection compliance across the County Council, developing policies and procedures, overseeing complex casework, and driving continuous improvement. What you’ll do: Key responsibilities include: Leading and developing a high‑performing Information Governance Team Ensuring compliance with UK GDPR, DPA 2018, FOI, EIR and associated statutory frameworks Providing expert advice on information governance, privacy risks, DPIAs, data sharing and incident management Supporting organisational learning by identifying training needs and strengthening IG capability across the Council Managing complex, sensitive, and high‑risk enquiries while maintaining strong performance against national standards Supporting a network of IG specialists across the Council to promote consistent, high‑quality practice What we’re looking for: You will be a confident, collaborative leader with: Significant experience in Information Governance, Data Protection, Privacy Compliance or a related field Strong working knowledge of the public sector and its statutory responsibilities Proven experience managing complex casework, risk-based decision‑making, and high‑volume statutory processes Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to advise staff at all levels A relevant degree or equivalent professional experience, supported ideally by a recognised data protection or IG qualification (e.g. IG certification) You will be self‑motivated, able to build positive relationships, and committed to delivering a high‑quality service that supports both the organisation and Hampshire’s residents.
