Chester Race Company is delighted to offer an excellent opportunity for a dedicated professional to join our Horseradish team as Sous Chef. This permanent position, based in the heart of Chester, plays a key role in ensuring that our high standards of food quality, presentation, and service are met and exceeded across a wide and varied event portfolio.
From race days through to large external events across many of our landmark venues, this position will support in delivering outstanding culinary experiences, innovating with food styles and service, and ensuring consistency across all settings. Reporting directly to the Head Chef, the successful candidate will help lead, inspire and develop kitchen teams, manage event operations, contribute to menu and service design, and ensure all regulatory, safety, and cost standards are adhered to.
General Responsibilities
 * Ensure all aspects of food safety, allergens, hygiene, and health & safety are adhered to rigorously.
 * Manage events and staff on and off site once trained in our operating procedures and standards.
 * Undertake duties delegated by the Lead or Head Chef.
 * Involved with all aspects of food preparation and food storage, also managing kitchen staff in food production and storage.
 * Ordering, stock rotation and wastage management/awareness.
 * Communication with Lead Chef/Head Chef regarding personal development, appraisals and long-term objectives.
 * Be aware of and operate within all legislation relevant to the job, including food safety, licensing, health & safety at work, COSHH, environmental health, fire precautions, etc.
Key Requirements
 * Proven experience of working within a busy kitchen.
 * Must display a keen interest in all aspects of the kitchen function.
 * Full UK driving licence.
 * Hold a valid Food Hygiene Certificate.

Salary & Hours
Salary: £36,000 per annum.
Hours of work: 40 hours per week. Evening and weekend work is expected in line with business needs with the ability to work occasional irregular hours during race events and busy periods.
This role is based in Chester with occasional travel in the UK; a reliable commute to Chester city centre is essential.
