COMMERCIALLEAD–(IN HOUSELEGAL)
As a Commercial Lead at Kainos, you will be joining a commercially focused, leading in-house legal team. We are seeking a pragmatic, business-focused andcollaborative commercial lawyer. The ideal candidate will bring experiencein drafting,negotiatingand advising on commercial contracts, withanability to balance legal risk against commercial objectives.
You will be flexible,forward-thinkingand solutions-oriented, with the confidence to provide clear, practical advice that supports strategic goals. This role requires someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment,demonstratesexcellentstakeholder engagement skills, andmaintainsa strong business focus.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Drafting,reviewingand negotiatinga wide range of commercial agreements, including customerandsupplier contractsas directed by Senior Legal team with accountability asappropriate forstandalone work.
2. Provide practical and commercially focused advice to a range of stakeholdersacross commercial, finance,deliveryand leadership teams.
3. Support bid teams on contractual terms for tenders and proposals.
4. Identifyand mitigate legal and commercial risks in new ventures and ongoing operations.
5. Ability to support corporate strategic projects.
6. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, regulatory changes and industry best practiceand recognise whentoescalatelegal compliance issues.
7. Contribute to continuous improvement of contract templates,processesand governanceframeworks.
MINIMUM (ESSENTIAL) REQUIREMENTS:
8. Qualified Solicitor or Barrister with a minimum of5years relevant post qualification experience in a commercial contract's role(or a minimum of 7years of relevant experience in alegal/commercial role).
9. Experience in drafting,reviewingand/or negotiatingcommercial contracts (preferably within IT Sector).
10. Articulate, analytical, pragmatic, and enthusiastic.
11. Excellent drafting, communication, and negotiation skills
12. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability of building strong trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders
13. A high attention to detail with excellent time management, organisational and planning skills.
14. Ability to work to tight deadlines and make sensible decisions under pressure.

DESIRABLE:
16. Akeeninterest in technology and AI.
17. Anunderstanding of the UK Public Sector procurement and contracting and subcontracting environment is highly desirable
18. Experience with SaaSagreements
19. Understanding of core legislative requirements such as GDPR, AI Act and Procurement Act
