As a Buildings Maintenance Operative, you’ll help to deliver a safe, compliant and well-maintained estate that includes modern and historic spaces. You’ll experience plenty of variety as you carry out a wide range of emergency, planned and general maintenance tasks, from decoration, flooring and furnishing repairs, to minor plumbing, brick and plaster repairs and carpentry. You’ll work alongside a small, friendly in-house team as well as external contractors, consultants and suppliers. Together, you’ll ensure all tasks are done within agreed timescales and ensure our estate is a safe and pleasant environment. You’ll also maintain accurate record-keeping and documentation. Whether you’re filling in risk assessments, method statements or Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) assessments, you’ll make sure the estate’s compliance and policy documents are updated in line with the work that is carried out. From waste reduction, energy conservation and biodiversity, to working with stakeholders to drive sustainability initiatives, you’ll identify ways to minimise our footprint. About you You’ll have experience in a similar, multiskilled role, such as facilities management or contracting. This will be supported by your knowledge of allied and associate trades including carpentry, plumbing and decorating. Please note, a full driving license and access to a vehicle is essential. We’ll provide a vehicle for off-site travel, but you’ll need your own transport to commute to our site due to its location. Proactive, collaborative and a problem-solver, you’ll enjoy working with others and confidently liaise with people at different levels. You’ll also be organised and able to manage your time effectively. Manual handling and practical working will be required. To assist with manual handling tasks, the site is equipped with additional support equipment such as lifting aids and pallet trucks. Please note that due to the nature of the site some areas may have limited accessibility and involve stair access. We’re looking for experience more than qualifications. You might already have a mechanical or electrical NVQ or City and Guilds Level 2 certificate, a forklift license, or your IPAF certificate for elevating platforms (categories A and B). However, please don’t de-select yourself if not, as you’ll get plenty of training as part of the role. Training and Development Upon joining, you’ll complete an induction to our organisation and site, and you’ll be assigned a mentor and ‘buddy’ to help you settle into the role. You’ll also have access to a wide range of training courses, including internal training and development programmes, leadership and management training, health and safety training, and facilities management training.
