Overview
Due to a structure review we are recruiting to a 1.0 wte progression post which starts at band 7 and moves to band 8a on completion of the CAMHS Band 7 - Band 8a Training and Progression Pathway. The successful candidate will join our Learning Disabilities Team within Hounslow Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service. We are looking for enthusiastic, skilled and innovative clinicians with a broad range of specialist and generic experience, who will maintain clinical curiosity and engage in reflective practice as well as advocate for children, young people and families' needs. You will be based in the Learning Disabilities Team (LDT) in Hounslow CAMHS, which sits alongside Tier 3 neurodevelopmental, specialist adolescent and child/family teams and collaborates closely with Community CAMHS services. The LDT is multi-disciplinary and includes psychiatry, nursing and psychology. You will be part of a team with a special interest and expertise in working with young people with a learning disability.
Main duties
The post holder will use specialist and highly specialist psychological assessment, formulation and intervention skills with young people and their families/carers presenting with mental health difficulties. You will also be responsible for line management and supervision of any trainee or assistant psychologists within the team and support further service development where appropriate. This role would suit a clinical psychologist with some experience of working with children with learning disabilities. It may suit a newly qualified psychologist starting in this area. You will be passionate about delivering a high quality psychology service to young people with learning disabilities and will receive regular clinical supervision.

There are CPD opportunities with regular whole-service trainings in therapeutic approaches and opportunities to develop through quality improvement projects or taking a lead in a particular area of interest. The LDT sits alongside neurodevelopmental, specialist adolescent and child/family teams and collaborates with Community CAMHS services. The post holder will be part of a growing team of clinicians with a special interest and expertise in working with young people with a learning disability.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Essential: Doctoral level training in clinical/counselling psychology, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology. Professional registration with the HCPC
* Desirable: Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology; Post-doctoral/graduate training in additional specialised areas with children and young people; Clinical training as part of a CYP IAPT collaborative in an evidenced based approach (e.g., CBT, Parenting Skills).
Experience
* Essential: Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of children, adolescents and families across care settings; experience with a wide range of client groups across the life course; experience with children/adolescents and their carer networks.
* Desirable: Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision; experience of working with other agencies; experience of applying clinical psychology in different cultural contexts; experience of assessment and intervention with children with learning disabilities.
Knowledge & Skills
* Essential: Skills in complex psychological assessment, intervention and management; ability to communicate complex information to clients, families, carers and professionals; ability to provide professional consultation; doctoral level knowledge of research methodology and data analysis.
* Desirable: Knowledge in specialist neuropsychological assessment and treatment for learning disabilities; high level knowledge of two or more specialised psychological therapies; knowledge of legislation relating to the client group and mental health.
Other requirements
* Essential: Ability to teach and train others; ability to uphold clinical governance; commitment to supporting children, families and professionals; empathy, adaptability and openness to new approaches; willingness to work flexibly and collaboratively with the team.
* Desirable: Experience of working within a multicultural framework.
