Job Description:
As a Senior Support Worker at Break, you will play a pivotal role in the daily care, support, and well-being of young people living in our children’s residential home in Long Stratton. You will work directly with the young residents, taking an active, hands-on approach to their care and development, while also leading the staff team during shifts. This includes acting as the senior shift worker and ensuring the smooth running of daily activities and routines. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with young people and a strong ability to provide leadership within a team-oriented environment.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Building strong, trusting relationships with young people to promote emotional stability and well-being.
* Providing support tailored to individual needs, including personal care, education, and therapeutic activities.
* Developing independence, life skills, and resilience through guidance and positive reinforcement.
* Delegating tasks, giving clear instructions, and ensuring effective communication between shifts.
* Maintaining a safe, supportive environment, adhering to safeguarding policies.
* Monitoring risk assessments and ensuring health and safety compliance.
* Recording and reporting incidents, care plans, and daily records accurately.
* Collaborating with colleagues and external agencies to support young people's development.
* Supporting young people through emotional distress or challenging behavior, using de-escalation techniques.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Experience in a similar role within children’s residential or social care setting.
* Understanding of safeguarding principles and handling sensitive situations.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Passion for working with young people and commitment to their care.
* Knowledge of relevant legislation, including Children’s Homes Regulations and Standards.
* Enhanced DBS check within the last 12 months or willingness to obtain one.
