Some Building Surveyor roles promise “variety”, “progression”, and “support”.
Most deliver a pile of admin, a backlog of surveys nobody wants, and a line manager who last did their APC sometime around the Nokia 3210 era.
You’ll be joining a consultancy that’s actually growing — not “restructuring”, not “reviewing the pipeline”, but genuinely busy. They’ve got work across commercial, education, residential and public-sector portfolios, and they’d quite like someone who can get stuck in rather than wait to be told what to do every five minutes.
What You’ll Actually Do
* Surveys that aren’t all identical
* Real defect analysis, not just copy-pasting from last year’s report
* Support on JCT contract admin for refurb and remedial projects
* Writing specifications and technical reports that people will actually read
* Working with Chartered Surveyors who remember what it’s like to be pre-APC — and don’t treat you like a spare part
