Job Title: ** Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

Responsible to: Head of College

Hours: Hours per week Mon - Thurs pm

Weeks: 47.6 weeks PA (39 term time + 3 training weeks + 5.6 A/L weeks)

Salary: ** £19, Actual Pay – spread evenly across 12 months)

Role:

To adapt, support and respond to the needs of the young people and fellow College staff.

You will specifically support the delivery of maths under the direction of the maths teacher

and will deliver the 'Everyday Maths' element with support from another member of staff.

You will also support the delivery of all elements of the course and the development of

personal, life and work skills as required by the timetable.

You will work as directed by colleagues in the classroom and also under your own initiative

when required. Your role is key to the overall success of the study programme by providing

continuity and creative solutions and initiatives across the delivery.

Role Objectives

* Develop meaningful and trusting relationships with the young people to enable truly effective learning and development opportunities.
* Support the development and implementation of personalised strategies, that consider the character and needs of the individual, to enable the young people to achieve their goals, independence, wellness, resilience and progression.
* Support all aspects of programme delivery and development, adapting to the needs of the young people, staff and partners
* Be prepared for inspection by statutory bodies or external agencies

Duties Include:

Working with the Young People

* Develop positive, effective and appropriate relationships with the Young People that will bring deep understanding of their needs, challenges and aspirations.  Use this to maximise their potential to grow as individuals, learn and achieve their academic and personal aims and future goals including the potential of the work placement and other appropriate progression opportunities.
* Encourage their growth and resilience with kind, fair and firm words and actions; model appropriate behaviour and use the reward and disciplinary measures in place to reinforce boundaries whilst nurturing a safe and positive environment.
* Actively promote the development of key life skills and the world of work to the Young People through structured learning activities and other appropriate means.  Use your knowledge of the individuals to adapt activities appropriately.
* In partnership with the College team, develop and implement, where appropriate, specific training/ PSD/ mentoring opportunities to increase the likelihood of success for the Young Person and ensure the proper maintenance of records to be shared with the Young Person and colleagues.

Responding to the needs of the Young People

* To respond appropriately, flexibly, positively and creatively to support the broad variation of need within and between cohorts that will require adaptation of content and/ or style of delivery. This support should be as directed or self-directed as appropriate to the setting.
* To make appropriate safeguarding decisions in any given learning environment and to appropriately share and record any concerns or actions taken.

Responding to the needs of your team

* To liaise closely with and positively support colleagues to meet the learning,

administrative and safeguarding needs as well as the personal and social development

needs of the young people whilst in any learning environment and during break times.

* To liaise closely with the administrative team with regard policies and procedures relating to the learning environment.
* To attend and contribute to appropriate meetings and develop strategies in partnership with colleagues.
* To prepare documentation for audit and quality assurance purposes if appropriately directed to do so.

Other

* You will be expected to keep all paperwork and administration up to date and of a high professional standard.
* You will be expected to keep your CPD up to date and remain across changes to guidance and developments in this sector,
* Be prepared to actively participate in and showcase the work of the young people in statutory inspections
* To undertake any other relevant, reasonable duties, training and responsibilities as may be required across the whole of the Lighthouse on The Marsh Organisation.

Qualifications and Experience

* Qualified as a minimum to GCSE Levels or equivalent in English and maths.
* An additional higher level qualification
* Appropriate experience to the role
