A rapidly scaling construction and civil engineering organisation based in West Cumbria is seeking an Accounts Assistant to strengthen its finance function. Your new role
Reporting to the Finance Manager and collaborating with operational departments, you will assist with a range of core finance activities. The role is pivotal in ensuring accurate record-keeping, smooth transactional processing, and effective financial administration across the business.With a positive team culture, thepany ismitted to employee development and offers clear pathways for progression.
Key duties will typically include:
1. Processing high volume purchase ledger with accuracy
2. Reconcile supplier accounts, investigate discrepancies and deal with related queries from customers in a timely manner.
3. Bank reconciliations and support month-end close tasks
4. Collate payroll-related administration and subcontractor payment processes
5. Contribute to continuous improvement of finance processes and systems
6. Contribute to VAT preparation and maintain up-to-date financial records
7. Provide general finance assistance across various departments
8. Develop strong working relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal colleagues
What you'll need to succeed
9. Experience within a fast-moving finance department or accountancy practice
10. High attention to detail and strong organisational capability
11. Ability to managepeting priorities effectively
12. Clearmunication skills and a proactive, solutions-focused mindset
13. Familiarity with systems such as Xero or knowledge of CIS (beneficial but not required)
14. AAT qualification or progress towards it (preferred)
15. Previous exposure to sectors such as construction, engineering, or utilities would be advantageous, though not essential.
