Our client is expanding their commercial team out of their long‑established Bristol office. As a Quantity Surveyor in Bristol, you will actively tender, estimate and measure on site. The work will include a variety of projects such as established frameworks and core contracts with prestigious housing clients in the public and residential sector, as well as property services covering defence, commercial and education sectors.
They are particularly interested in candidates with experience on site, pricing, and dealing with direct labour and subcontractors.
Key Responsibilities
* Measure and prepare cost estimates for contracts and tenders, highlighting commercial risks.
* Prepare cost value reconciliations for contracts, identifying risks and opportunities to ensure correct contract planning from the outset.
* Work closely with the Contracts Manager to set productivity labour targets before contract start, including direct labour incentives where possible.
* Build strong client and supplier relations to discuss variations and progress of contracts, seeking mutual solutions.
* Complete and analyse weekly site reporting, ensuring it contains adequate cost information (labour rates and performance, budgets, value, progress, quality, safety).
What We’re Looking For
* You are inquisitive, organised, honest, and a genuine people‑person who thrives when collaborating with clients, trade teams and colleagues.
* Proven experience in an estimating and surveying role, managing projects from tender through to final account.
* Experience managing a value of works up to £3 million annually.
* A commercial, analytical, and accurate approach with an entrepreneurial spirit and an eye for negotiating better gains.
* Experience dealing with direct labour teams, timesheets, and direct subcontractor management, especially in painting, brickwork, plastering, or roofing.
* Background in new builds, refurbishments, painting and decorating or similar property services work.
