Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Consultant to join our dynamic neurology department, where you will deliver exceptional clinical, educational, and managerial services at the highest professional standard. You will collaborate with a passionate multidisciplinary team to provide top‑tier diagnosis, comprehensive care for patients with multiple sclerosis, and ensure adherence to Trust policies and practices.
Key responsibilities
* Provide direct clinical care across all aspects of the department, engaging in patient management and clinical decision‑making.
* Deliver high‑quality inpatient in‑reach provision, ensuring seamless care for hospitalised patients.
* Collaborate with other consultants to maintain a well‑led service prioritising patient outcomes.
* Co‑lead the MS service, guiding the NHS nursing team and contributing strategic insights to enhance service development through the adoption of new technologies and treatments.
* Offer prompt consultations to other specialties as needed.
* Supervise nurse specialists and support junior doctors in their training and development.
* Participate in education, research, audit and clinical governance activities with a multi‑disciplinary approach.
* Support recruitment, appraisal, mentoring and management of the team, including budgeting and staff oversight.
* Undertake additional duties as required, with changes negotiated and reflected in job plans.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
* MBBS or other recognised equivalent medical qualification.
* Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) or equivalent.
* Full registration with the GMC.
* Inclusion in the specialist register for Neurology, or within 6 months of CCT at time of interview.
Desirable
* Relevant higher degree (MD, PhD or equivalent).
Experience
Essential
* Fully trained in Neurology.
* At least 2 years substantive NHS experience at SpR level (or equivalent).
* Experience of acute neurology.
* Experience of managing MS patients and the MS service.
Desirable
* Leading change or innovation in a multi‑disciplinary team.
* Strategic planning and management of future MS service development utilising emerging technologies and treatments.
Skills
* Ability to work constructively in a multidisciplinary team, flexibly responding to colleagues’ needs and providing leadership.
* Evidence of continuous improvement of patient and staff experience.
* Ability to manage competing demands in an acute environment, coping and managing own emotions under stress.
Leadership and Management
Essential
* Evidence of previous active participation in leadership and management activities.
Desirable
* Experience managing budgets and staff.

Contract Details
Fixed‑term contract, 3 months, part‑time. Salary £105,504 to £139,882 per year. Location: St Peters Hospital, Chertsey, KT16 0PZ.
