NHS Forth Valley is seeking to appoint a Consultant Orthodontist (1 WTE) to work within the acute service based at Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Stirlingshire, Scotland.
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, forward-thinking clinician with skills to complement the existing consultants, provide leadership within the department, and demonstrate a clear vision for the service. The post holder will share, with other clinical colleagues, responsibility for the effective functioning of the service. The consultant will also contribute to the professional supervision and management of staff in training. The combined department currently includes a team of three Consultants, two Orthodontic Therapists and two Hygienists, who are supported by a team of ten nurses and two Orthodontic Technicians.
The Orthodontic service works closely with our Oral and Maxillofacial surgical team in the outpatient setting through new patient clinics, joint surgical planning clinics and orthognathic clinics.
The department provides an orthodontic service to a population of 300,000 with 60,000 children under the age of 16 years. There is no on-call commitment.
Treatment of Orthognathic and Orthodontic-restorative patients form a significant part of the department's workload as well as training Specialists in orthodontics. There is a managed clinical network with the local Specialist Practitioners who undertake Orthodontic treatment. Referrals to the hospital are limited to patients requiring multidisciplinary care requiring the input of Specialists in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Restorative dentistry, management of Cleft lip and palate. The Department also works closely with the Public Dental Service and provides orthodontic care for patients with additional needs.

They should possess the Intercollegiate Speciality Fellowship Examination (ISFE) of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of the UK and Ireland in orthodontics (or equivalent) or be within six months of sitting the examination. Applicants are required to have evidence of recent continued academic and professional development. Excellent, communication, listening and organisational skills are essential.
