Job Summary
The Junior Clinical Fellowship in Neurocritical Care is a 12‑month fixed‑term post based in the Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit (Neuro‑ICU) at John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. The role offers supervised hands‑on learning in neurocritical care, including airway management, central venous and arterial cannulation, and multidisciplinary ICU care.
Principal Activities
* Participate in twice‑daily consultant‑led ICU ward rounds and conduct daily clinical reviews of critically unwell patients.
* Provide 24/7 on‑call support for the Neuro‑ICU, including the Cardiac Arrest Team and ALS duties.
* Develop airway and anaesthesia skills through participation in relevant sessions.
* Engage in clinical governance activities such as audit, risk management and quality improvement.
* Contribute to teaching, training, research and management activities within the fellowship programme.
* Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of neurocritical care practice, and comply with Trust policies and infection control standards.
Qualifications and Experience
* Full GMC registration.
* Experience appropriate to F3 or Core Training level, with a desire to strengthen an application for training in Anaesthesia, Intensivist Critical Care (ICM), Neurology, Neurosurgery, ACCS or Emergency Medicine.
* Demonstrated clinical competence in airway management, central venous and arterial cannulation, and ICU care.
* Good teamwork, communication, documentation and study leave planning skills.
* Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and under consultant supervision.
Working Conditions
* Shift pattern involves on‑call and weekend work covering the 15‑bed Neuro‑ICU.
