Description The Team Leader Aboriginal Environmental Health oversees the delivery of environmental health programs across Aboriginal communities in the Derby/West Kimberley region. Working under general direction, the role leads a small team to address environmental health risks, meet legislative obligations, and uphold the requirements of the WA Department of Health Service Agreement. About the Role: This position provides day‑to‑day leadership, mentoring, and support to AEH staff while building strong, culturally respectful relationships with Aboriginal communities. The role involves regular travel to remote communities, delivering health education, supporting key programs (including housing maintenance, clinical referrals, and dog health initiatives), and collaborating closely with the Senior Environmental Health Officer. What You'll Be Doing: The Team Leader is responsible for coordinating team activities, overseeing reporting and compliance, supporting human resource functions, and ensuring high standards of customer service and workplace safety. Strong communication, planning, relationship-building, and problem‑solving skills are essential, along with a commitment to cultural sensitivity, teamwork, and professional integrity. The role liaises widely across internal teams, external agencies, local businesses, and community members, contributing to improved environmental health outcomes and community wellbeing. This position is based in Derby and is offered at Level 6.1, with a competitive salary of $99,515 inclusive of generous allowances, plus superannuation and benefits. Skills And Experiences ESSENTIAL Good working knowledge and/or ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation, including environmental health and work health and safety, through experience in a similar role. Show ability to lead a team, collaborate and provide leadership through previous experience in a leadership role, supervising teams. Ability to prepare reports, including preparing reporting and acquittals for grant applications. Demonstrated experience in relevant field (desirable – within regional or remote Australian environments). Demonstrated experience working in a culturally diverse environment. Demonstrated excellent time management and organisational skills Well-developed customer service and community liaison skills. Well-developed interpersonal, problem solving and conflict resolution skills. Willingness to undertake further training. Ability to obtain a WA Working with children check (WWCC) and maintain throughout employment. Current “C” Class Manual Driver's License. DESIRABLE: Ability to prepare and deliver interactive educational packages and presentations. Awareness of Aboriginal environmental health issues, through experience working in regional or remote locations in Australia.
