Length of employment: Job Summary: Are you passionate about the environment? Can you help others to protect and enhance a beautiful part of Cornwall, whilst enabling critical Defence outputs? RNAS Culdrose is located next to areas that are nationally designated as Sites of Special Scientific Interest and is also adjacent to land protected as part of the Cornwall Natural Landscape, under legislation made for areas of outstanding natural beauty. Being a good neighbour is vitally important for us. The Environmental Protection Adviser is responsible for providing specialist Environmental Protection advice and assistance at RNAS Culdrose and its outstations. The post is part of a small team which covers Health and Safety & Environmental Protection. We are co-located with the Air Safety Team and form an Integrated Safety Centre. The work is extremely varied and covers a diverse range of tasks including pollution prevention, habitat conservation, climate change and sustainability, carbon emission reduction and waste management. You will help manage all of this, whilst ensuring the air station is able to deliver its operational and training tasks, minimise its impact on the environment and comply with the law. The position is advertised at 37 hours per week, of which the majority will need to be site based at RNAS Culdrose, to be effective in the role. Job Description: The Environmental Protection Adviser is responsible for providing specialist Environmental Protection advice and assistance to the Commanding Officer at RNAS Culdrose and its outstations. Specific responsibilities are based on the Plan, Do, Check, Act methodology. Plan - To manage, or have input to, the following plans: Safety and Environmental Management Plan (SEMP), the Unit Spill Response Plan, Integrated Rural Management Plan, Nature Conservation Plan, Waste Management Plans and HS&EP Audit plans. Do - To implement, deliver and undertake: Provide EP advice and assistance to all levels on management and Industry Partners at RNAS Culdrose Manage the Environmental Management System and co-ordinate the Significant Environmental Aspects Register. Conduct environmental risk assessments. Be appointed as the station Pollution Control Officer. Attend pollution events during the working day (and at other times by mutual agreement), providing advice and guidance. Support Aircraft Post Crash and Incident Management tasks within area. Line manage staff in the Waste Management section dealing with non-Hestia waste streams. Oversee the running of the section, which includes hazardous waste. Fulfil the role of Conservation Officer. Manage the Climate Impact Risk Assessment Methodology process and the Land Quality Assessment programme, in conjunction with DIO and Navy Infra. Deliver environmental training and briefs. Report and investigate environmental occurrences taking on role as MySafety Occurrence Manager. Work with DIO and Navy Command HQ on Climate Change and Sustainability issues. Other reasonable tasks in support of the HS&EP team and the wider Executive Department. Check - to carry out a variety of audits, to host visits from external auditors and regulatory bodies. Act - to undertake corrective action and continuous improvement and leading on the Environmental Management System.
