Production Planning Engineer salary: £36,250 – £45,500

Production Planning Engineer Overview:
Own daily MRP and planning reports to keep production priorities controlled
Create and maintain routings, works orders and pick lists to support build and despatch
Control stock levels for manufactured and subcontract items, reducing shortages and surprises
Support quotes, design reviews and process optimisation to improve manufacturability and flow
Provide cover for the Production Planning Manager and support training where needed
This Production Planning Engineer role reports to the Production Planning Manager and sits within a fast-paced precision manufacturing environment in Poole. The Production Planning Engineer will run daily MRP, build and maintain routings, create works orders, generate pick lists, and keep planning trackers up to date so production activity stays aligned to priorities and delivery expectations. The Production Planning Engineer will also support quotations/bids, attend design reviews to advise on manufacturability, and work closely with managers and engineers to optimise processes and drive continuous improvement.
Day-to-day responsibilities of a Production Planning Engineer
Maintain the daily MRP and maintain daily planning reports
Create and maintain optimised routings for manufactured products
Monitor actual times vs routings and adjust where necessary
Create and maintain works orders for manufactured and subcontract products
Control and maintain stock levels for manufactured and subcontract items
Generate picking lists for items required for FAT and/or despatch
Process DRNs, ECNs and change proposals as required
Load repair works orders and liaise with other departments to confirm viability
Review and support quotations/bids, including attending meetings where required
Liaise with managers and engineers to optimise production processes
Attend design review meetings to advise on manufacturability of new designs
Support staff training and retraining where appropriate
Undertake Production Planning Manager duties to provide holiday/absence cover
Drive continuous improvement across areas of responsibility and act as a role model for values/standards

Previous experience using MRP/ERP systems in a manufacturing environment
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and how routings drive capacity and delivery
Computer literate with a structured approach to planning and admin control
Confident liaising with production, engineering and management to align priorities
Able to work on own initiative and manage a busy, varied workload
Maths and English to a good standard
