The Role

As a Lecturer in Media and Film, you will contribute to the delivery and development of our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, predominantly in Media and Communication, but also in Film, and related interdisciplinary areas. You will play an active role in sustaining the School’s strong reputation for excellent teaching and student experience, as reflected in consistently high NSS scores. The role involves teaching across a range of modules, supervising projects, and contributing to curriculum design and innovation in learning and assessment. You will also maintain an active research and/or professional practice profile that complements and enhances the School’s existing strengths.

You will be part of a dynamic and supportive academic community and will work collaboratively with colleagues across the Media and Film team (and the School of Humanities more broadly) to enrich our courses and develop new opportunities for students. You will also engage with university initiatives that promote creativity, diversity, and international perspectives within Media and Film education.

Required Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will be from a Media and Communication background, with a strong theoretical and analytical orientation (as opposed to a production or practice-based one). Additional knowledge and experience of digital culture, particularly gaming, gamification, social media, artificial intelligence, and emerging or convergent technologies, will be an advantage, as will experience of developing or delivering media-focused employability or work-related learning modules.

You will demonstrate a strong record of effective teaching of Media and Communication in higher education and evidence of curriculum development or pedagogical innovation. A developing research profile in your specialist area is expected, alongside a commitment to producing outputs of recognised quality. The successful candidate will be collegial, committed to student success, and eager to contribute to a culture of collaboration, inclusivity, and academic excellence within the School.
