SEND Teaching Assistant

NOW Education is currently recruiting for an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to work on a full-time, supply fixed-term basis within a specialist school setting supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This is a rewarding opportunity to work within a dedicated specialist provision supporting primary and secondary aged students who may have experienced trauma, disrupted education, and behavioural challenges. The school provides a structured and nurturing environment, and is seeking a resilient, proactive and compassionate Teaching Assistant who can make a positive impact on pupils’ development and engagement with learning.
The Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils with SEMH needs throughout the school day, both in and out of the classroom. You will play a key role in promoting positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and engagement with learning.
Key Responsibilities
• Support pupils with SEMH needs on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
• Assist the class teacher with adapting learning activities
• Implement behaviour management strategies and support de-escalation
• Build positive, trusting nurturing relationships with pupils
• Support pupils’ emotional wellbeing and social development
• Work with others to maintain a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment
What We’re Looking For
• Experience working within SEN or SEMH settings (essential)
• Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable)
• Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
• A calm, patient and resilient approach
• Ability to build positive relationships with vulnerable learners
• A genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional needs
