The Pattern Cutter translates the design vision into accurate, production-ready technical patterns. This role is responsible for ensuring the silhouette, fit, and proportions of the garments are achieved through precise manual or digital drafting techniques.
Key Responsibilities
* Create first patterns from designer sketches, photographs, or original samples.
* Amend and refine patterns following fit sessions to ensure the desired silhouette is achieved.
* Produce clear and accurate technical specifications to accompany the patterns for the workroom or factory.
* Calculate fabric consumption and create markers to ensure the most cost-effective use of materials.
* Collaborate closely with the designers and the sample machinist to develop the initial toile and sample.
* Ensure all patterns are graded correctly or prepared for the grading process according to the size charts.
Requirements
* Proven experience as a Pattern Cutter within a commercial or luxury fashion environment.
* Expert knowledge of garment construction, tailoring, and fabric draping.
* Proficiency in digital pattern-cutting software (e.g., Gerber, Lectra, or Optitex) and manual drafting.
* Ability to interpret 2D creative concepts into 3D garments with high technical accuracy.
* Strong communication skills to liaise with the design and production teams.
