We are looking for an enthusiastic individual experienced in Breast Imaging to undergo study and on the job learning to complete a level 4 Mammography Associate Apprenticeship.
Following completion, Mammography Associates will be qualified to work within the breast imaging workforce undertaking routine two-view mammography in a hospital, mobile breast screening unit or medical centre.
Upon qualification, the post holder will be required to perform imaging in a symptomatic and screening setting. The post holder will be required to work across all WWL sites and on the Mobile vans across South Lancashire and Wigan.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is required to undertake the necessary training to perform basic mammography both in the screening and symptomatic environment, to a high standard inline with NHSBSP guidance, under the supervision of a mammographic radiographer, across all trust static sites and on the mobile screening vans across Wigan and South Lancashire.
To participate in the equipment quality control programme.
The post holder will provide general assistance to the clinical team during during ultrasound and X-ray guided interventional procedures.
The post holder will provide a high level of care, assistance and support to patients attending for imaging and other specialised procedures.
The post holder will be familiar with the departmental administration services and IT systems and will provide administrative support where required.
The post holder is required to achieve and maintain accreditation as an assistant practitioner from the Society of Radiographers on successful completion of training.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Undertake the necessary training to perform mammographic examinations, in a symptomatic and screening environment, under the direct or indirect supervision of a mammographic radiographer as outlined in the departmental assistant practitioner scope of practice, meeting the standards specified by NHSBSP.
2. Provide general assistance to the clinical team during diagnostic procedures including mammography, ultrasound and intervention within the breast screening unit.
3. Provide a high level of care, assistance and support to patients attending for imaging and other specialised procedures.
4. Prepare the clinical area for safe practice by maintaining cleanliness, observing infection control procedures, and ensuring materials and equipment are available when required and disposed of safely.
5. Undertake equipment quality control and safety checks as defined in the departmental quality control manual, documenting all test parameters and reporting any equipment faults and/or test results outside acceptable limits to the supervising radiographer, QA Radiographer or Line Manager.
6. Maintain and monitor the condition of equipment within the service, reporting any issues to the supervising radiographer, QA Radiographer or Line Manager.
7. Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to ensure the needs of the patient are met.
8. Participate in administration of the patient pathway, including clinic preparation, image processing, preparation of images for reporting and end of reporting processes.
9. Adhere to departmental protocols and procedures, following the right results process.
10. Ensure compliance with Trust policies and guidelines for self and others, alerting the line manager if there are any concerns about patient care.
11. Competent in the use of relevant IT systems, inputting and maintaining patient information and updating patient records, ensuring accuracy of data.
12. Achieve and maintain accreditation as an assistant practitioner from the Society of Radiographers upon successful completion of training.
