Overview

Principal Clinical Scientist role based in the Radiotherapy Physics Department at Royal Preston Hospital. You will join a multidisciplinary team and will be HCPC registered as a clinical scientist with or nearing Medical Physics Expert (MPE) certification by RPA 2000.

You will work in the Imaging and Clinical Computing section and act as a Medical Physics Expert within the radiotherapy department, providing MPE level support across a wide range of clinical duties from treatment planning and quality control to research and innovation. The role includes supporting management of radiotherapy systems and collaborating with the Trust IT department to ensure effective system and data governance for safe delivery of state-of-the-art radiotherapy.


Responsibilities

* Act as Medical Physics Expert (MPE) within the radiotherapy department.
* Support management of a wide range of radiotherapy systems with emphasis on clinical computing.
* Collaborate with the Trust IT department to ensure data governance and safe delivery of radiotherapy services.
* Provide MPE level support and participate in clinical duties including treatment planning, quality control, research and innovation.

* Salary: £55,690 to £62,682 per annum

Qualifications

* State Registered Clinical Scientist
* Honours degree in an appropriate physical science
* Postgraduate degree (e.g., Masters or higher)
* Registered as an MPE with RPA 2000
* Desirable: Full membership of IPEM or equivalent; PhD or evidence of research training


Knowledge, Experience & Skills

* Experience to act as an MPE in radiotherapy
* Expert knowledge in radiotherapy physics
* Experience planning/implementing new facilities, techniques or equipment within a team
* Knowledge of software for data analysis and presentation
* Understanding of quality management systems and health and safety legislation
* Strong scientific leadership and ability to communicate complex concepts
