The Role
We’re on the hunt for a Staff Backend Engineer to join one of the most business-critical orgs at DOJO: Payments. You’ll make an impact across multiple squads; and will be behind the authorisation systems that keep money moving, 24/7, across millions of transactions. You’ll help to design, build, and evolve the backbone of our payments infrastructure - and the ripple effect of your work will be felt by every DOJO customer.

What you will do
1. Set the technical strategy for your domain, aligning with engineers and other leaders with decisions that will directly impact our customers.
2. Proactively address challenges, identifying high-impact technical gaps and risks, and lead initiatives to address them.
3. Collaborate with EMs, PMs, and ETLs to ensure a balance between feature development and technical maturity.
4. Ensure our platform's high reliability by discovering and implementing technical solutions across the stack.
5. Drive community standards, helping to define engineering principles as a key member of the Staff Engineering community.
6. Support engineers of all experience levels and foster a collaborative and open culture.
What will you bring
7. Deep technical expertise, seen as a point of contact for engineers seeking direction.
8. The ability to guide teams through ambiguous challenges and technical discovery.
9. Strong communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
10. Experience working in a cloud environment, preferably GCP or AWS.
11. Hands on experience with microservices and event-driven systems using languages such as Golang/.NET/Java.
12. Experience in designing, developing and maintaining large-scale production applications.
13. Product centric thinking and pride in creating good quality and well maintained software.
