Independent Travel Trainer

We are seeking 3 Independent Travel Trainers with experience working with young people with SEND to join our independent travel training team for a permanent, part time (30 hours) role. Salary advertised will be calculated pro-rata.

About the role
The role of the Independent Travel Trainer will be required to work with families and young people with special educational needs to train young people to travel independently to and from their education placements via public transport.
This role will act as an expert in the provision of travel training and keep up to date with training and requirements to support continued learning in this area with a strong focus on safeguarding practices. The post holder may be required to work early mornings or late evenings in order to meet service requirements, alongside working with young people and families in both boroughs.

About you
Our expectation is that the Independent Travel Trainer will:
2. Work effectively as a team to maintain a good atmosphere with teams, families and schools and be able to liaise with schools to run classroom based learning sessions and complete virtual training over video conferencing as a first step for training the young people and finally completing necessary reports and assessments for the young people's training
3. Deliver training to other services on Independent Travel Training.
4. Work with families and young people to complete assessments of young people for suitability for the training and then putting together a plan for the training.
5. Provide one to one training for young people, delivering the training in accordance with planned training objectives and guidance.
6. Plan and complete risk assessments on routes via public transport for the young people and liaise with managers in the SEND Transport teams and schools to work together to achieve successful outcomes.
7. Have experience of working in a Home to School Transport setting and independent travel training with a focus on working with children and young people with SEND being desirable.
The travel trainers may also work with groups of young people within a school setting or provide training on ITT to other services.
