Maternity Cover - Evening Radiographic Department Assistant, CT & MRI

Main area Radiology. Grade Band 2. Contract: Fixed term 9 months (End Date 30/04/2027). Hours: 10.5 hours per week (Part‑time shift position).
Employer: University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust (UHD). Site: Royal Bournemouth Hospital, Town Bournemouth. Salary: £24,465 pa/pro rata (plus enhanced rate after 8pm). Closing date: 23/02/2026 23:59.

Job overview
This is a 12‑month fixed‑term contract to cover maternity leave.
Responsibilities
1. Assisting patients to prepare for their examination.
2. Porter patients on trolleys and in wheelchairs from the Emergency Department to the CT department.
3. Explain procedures to patients, requiring empathy as some may be anxious, distressed or in significant pain.
4. Perform basic nursing duties and care of the patient, including dealing with bodily fluids; e.g. assisting patients with vomit bowls and bedpans.
5. Input and access data into the department computer systems such as the Radiology Information System (RIS), EPR blood result system and the electronic portering system (TMS).
6. Ensure the scan rooms are clean, prepared for the next examination and stock levels are maintained.
7. Liaise with other wards, departments and staff members to arrange patient examinations.
8. Assisting patients on and off scan beds from wheelchairs and trolleys, following appropriate manual handling training.
Part‑time Shift Rotation
* Week 1 – Monday to Thursday 6.30 pm – 11 pm
* Week 2 – Friday to Sunday 6.30 pm – 11 pm
* Week 3 – Week off
Base Location: Royal Bournemouth Hospital

You will work closely with Radiographers and other Emergency Department staff. A basic knowledge of nursing, or experience in a caring profession, would be an advantage but full training will be provided.
Expected to volunteer for additional duties to cover annual leave and sickness.

If the role relocates, excess mileage will not be reimbursed. Travel to the new base is a normal commute.
