Overview
The role of the Project Engineer – Europe is to assist the Company’s Project Manager across allocated projects, ensuring smooth on‑schedule running including the achievement of all customer expectations and adherence to statutory regulations. The Engineer supports Project Managers regarding H&S management, installation progress, quality, material management and test and commissioning.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Conduct site surveys and prepare documentation, considering security and fire risk factors.
* Plan fire detection, access control, CCTV and intruder alarm systems.
* Ensure system design specifications comply with applicable technical and regulatory standards (EN, BS, HTM, BAFE/NSI Codes).
* Coordinate installation activities to ensure controlled execution per Company procedures and statutory requirements.
* Monitor and manage project progress.
* Adhere to Company policies including quality, health & safety and false‑alarm management.
* Provide reports to the Project Manager and other Company officers.
* Carry out other duties as appropriate as defined by Company directors.
* H&S reporting: Safe Starts, Toolbox Talks, Site Inspections, Plant & MEWP inspections.
* Quality reporting: snagging installation work, ensuring snags are cleared and documented.
* Progress reporting including mark‑ups of drawings/schedules.
* Liaise with PM to ensure sufficient labour availability.
* Attend site meetings as required.
* Accept installer hand‑over for commissioning.
* Commission & test systems, complete commissioning paperwork.
* Demonstrate system operation to client or client representative.
* Keep up to date with new technologies and regulatory standards.
Person Specification
Essential
* Experience in working on and project managing fire detection, access control, CCTV and intruder alarm systems to applicable British and European Standards and BAFE/NSI codes of practice.
* Good working knowledge of specified products and systems with awareness of any limitations.
* Understanding of installation requirements to produce professional system design specifications.
* Ability to plan and monitor work against tight time scales and deadlines.
* Good verbal and written communication skills, including report preparation and tender/contract submissions.
* Creative and innovative problem‑solving with customers.
* Ability to build good working relationships with colleagues, customers and external bodies.
* Ability to influence, persuade and negotiate effectively with all levels.
* Proven understanding of specifications and technical drawings.
* Computer literacy, proficient in core Microsoft Office packages.
Desirable
* CSCS card (or equivalent)
* Experience of Eque2 or similar contract management software
* Familiarity with MS Project or other project planning software
Working Conditions
The physical environment requires the employee to work in office and construction site locations around Europe, including inside and outside environments. Personal protective equipment will be required. The employee may need to work nights, weekends and public holidays, and travel away from home to fulfil the role.
