Job description

Take the lead in shaping project success as a PMO Manager—where strategic vision meets delivery excellence.

In this high-impact role, you’ll lead the PMO to drive the successful delivery of Business Case benefits and outcomes. You won’t just support projects—you’ll elevate them. By championing best-in-class project management standards and embedding proven processes, you’ll create a culture of consistency, clarity, and continuous improvement. You will lead and coordinate planning efforts, ensuring seamless alignment with strategic goals and timely delivery across all initiatives.

As the heartbeat of project intelligence, you’ll provide expert guidance, deliver insightful reporting, and ensure governance is not only upheld but enhanced. Your leadership will empower teams, unlock efficiencies, and maintain momentum across every stage of delivery.

Responsibilities:

* Lead and inspire the PMO team, supporting the Programme Manager in building a high-performing project workforce—from recruitment and development to deployment and reassignment.
* Champion governance excellence by ensuring robust structures are in place and coordinating key assurance activities, such as Gateway Reviews, at critical project milestones.
* Support the Programme Manager in shaping compelling Business Cases, drawing on insights from subject matter experts to build strong foundations for success.
* Drive change with confidence by establishing clear protocols for managing scope changes and keeping configuration documentation accurate and up to date.
* Establish project and programme level controls to enable monitoring, evaluation and reporting to inform decision making.
* Embed a proactive risk culture by setting the standards and processes for identifying, managing, and mitigating risks and issues across the project life-cycle.

Person specification

We’re looking for an individual who thrives in fast-paced, dynamic environments—those who can confidently navigate uncertainty and tackle high-profile, unplanned tasks with speed and precision. You’ll bring experience in leading a PMO team, managing small to medium-sized projects, or driving delivery as a work-stream lead on large-scale programmes.

Exceptional communication skills are essential. You’ll be working collaboratively across teams and engaging with a broad and diverse range of stakeholders—so the ability to communicate clearly, influence effectively, and build strong relationships is key to your success.

Candidates should hold a recognised Project or Portfolio Management qualification, such as APM or PMQ (or equivalent). Please clearly detail any relevant qualifications in your supporting statement. All qualifications must be current, and you will be expected to provide documentary evidence if invited to interview.

Candidates will be required to provide a statement of suitability (1250 words max)) demonstrating the essential criteria listed below:

* Proven experience in leading, engaging, and communicating effectively across teams, including collaboration with a diverse range of stakeholders.
* Strong track record of delivering projects and programmes using established project management methodologies, tools, and techniques.
* Skilled in sourcing, refining, tailoring, and analysing high-quality management information to support informed decision-making.
