Job Title: Senior Highway Engineer
Salary: £40,077 - £46,142 per annum | Full time, Permanent | 37 hours per week
Location: County Hall, Preston | Planning & Regeneration

We are a dedicated, multi-disciplinary team comprising civil engineering, spatial and environmental planning, and transport planning professionals with a proven track record of delivering major transport infrastructure with an ongoing and ambitious programme of works.
Our recent achievements include completion of the £207m Preston Western Distributor Road (Edith Rigby Way) including delivery of M55 J2 and the £17m Penwortham Bypass (John Horrocks Way) which has significantly eased congestion and air quality issues in Penwortham, South Ribble.
Lancashire County Council is one of the largest local authorities in the UK, covering a substantial urban and rural area in north-west England encompassing 12 district councils. We are finalising the development of a significant highway improvement scheme on the Major Road Network and preparing for further government investment in our highway and transport network.
About the role
The successful candidates will join an established engineering team within a multi-disciplinary group responsible for planning and delivering major transport schemes across Lancashire. Role highlights include working on multiple projects, developing designs, and supporting scheme delivery. The role is based in County Hall, Preston with opportunities for home working. We embrace flexible working and offer relocation expenses.
Key activities (typical and varying in scale):
* Develop designs and support delivery of highway scheme proposals
* Collaborate with engineers, transport, spatial and environmental planners
* Contribute to planning and delivery of major highway infrastructure and active travel improvements
* Assist in applying technical/specialist judgement to achieve scheme objectives
About you
We are looking for individuals with a passion for highway design. You will have:
* A relevant qualification or substantial vocational experience in highway design or similar
* Knowledge of the application, principles, theory and practice of highway design; ability to apply technical/specialist judgement
* Experience of undertaking design work for highways schemes; proficient in AutoCAD
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent written and verbal communication with diverse stakeholders
* Driving is required (you will be provided with a car for business use; we may consider candidates who cannot drive due to a disability)
