Nurse Practitioner (Psychiatric Mental Health)

This position is in the Mental Health service at the Leeds VA Healthcare system and it is located in Leeds, Massachusetts. It is permanent and full-time at 40 hours per week.
Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.
Duties
* Uses advanced clinical judgment to independently provide evidence-based treatment to Veterans with acute or chronic mental illness including use of psychotropic medications, psychotherapy, and other modalities;
* Provides patient and family education on medical/mental health conditions, preventive measures, and prescribed treatments;
* Demonstrates leadership and engages in collaboration with other mental health and specialty care professionals while involving Veterans and their families (as appropriate), in treatment plan development;
* Assesses and adjusts the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes; counsels and treats patients with substance use disorders;
* Orders and interprets diagnostic studies;
* Initiates referrals/consults to specialty services;
* Exemplifies the ICARE core values of Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect, and Excellence; and
* Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule
Monday-Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm. Telework: May be authorized on an ad-hoc basis at the supervisor's discretion. Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: May be authorized for qualifying candidates.

Conditions of employment
* U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
* All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
* English Language Proficiency. No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless proficient in basic written and spoken English.
* Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
* You may be required to serve a probationary period.
* Subject to background/security investigation.
* Onboarding requirements; acceptable form(s) of identification; and pre-employment steps as applicable (including REAL ID considerations).
* Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
* Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all VA health care personnel.
Qualifications
Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) Basic Requirements
* Education: A post-master's certificate or master's or doctoral degree as a Nurse Practitioner. Must be a graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by ACEN or CCNE.
* License: Active, current, full, and unrestricted APN license to practice as an NP in the United States (state/territory/District of Columbia).
* Basic Board Certification: PMHNP from ANCC, AANPCB, or other recognized certifying body.
Note: Foreign education must be evaluated for equivalence. Grandfathering provisions may apply for current VA employees. The following scope, education, experience, and dimension criteria must be met to qualify for Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) II and III levels as described in the standard.
* Education and Experience requirements vary by grade; Nurse II is entry level with no experience required; Nurse III requires one year of specialized APN experience.
* Dimensions include Clinical Practice, Outcome Focus, Leadership, Professional Development, and Professionalism/Collegiality, with progressively expanding expectations at higher grades.
