Operations and Automation Engineer Role at Amazon
Operations is at the heart of everything Amazon does, and automation is one of the ways we optimise our processes. As an Automation Engineer, you’ll ensure that our automated systems operate optimally to deliver orders on time. By exploring data from control systems to sensors, you’ll maximise equipment availability at your sites. This role places you at the forefront of Amazon’s emerging technology to solve complex productivity challenges.
Key job responsibilities
1. Monitor, troubleshoot, and repair issues with key systems.
2. Collaborate with the EU Controls network to monitor Material Handling Equipment (MHE) metrics.
3. Provide data visualisations of troubleshooting to internal stakeholders.
4. Lead or participate in continuous improvement projects within the EU Controls network.
5. Ensure all systems are well-documented and maintain accurate backup libraries in coordination with different departments.
6. Install and commission new equipment in collaboration with global colleagues.
7. Support other sites in the EU Controls network as needed.
8. Interpret mechanical and electrical drawings and develop improvement strategies compliant with IEC 61131-3 standards.
A day in the life
As an Automation Engineer, you’ll be the expert responsible for maintaining the smooth operation of key automated systems, including conveyors and sortation systems. You’ll lead troubleshooting efforts and implement improvements when issues arise. Additionally, you’ll share your expertise with your colleagues, keeping Engineering Technicians updated on device troubleshooting and preventative maintenance to ensure system reliability.
